Nothing symbolizes self-sufficiency more than cutting or trimming your own hair. It shouldn’t come at the cost of hair all over your house, though. This is why so many people choose vacuum hair clippers over the traditional ones
Vacuum hair clippers can save you a lot of effort since you won’t have to clean up after a cutting session. As a result, you save a lot of time too. This combination makes vacuum clippers excellent tools for busy people.

What’s The Difference between Vacuum Hair Clippers and Vacuum Hair Trimmers?
When you start considering vacuum clippers, you’ll soon come across vacuum trimmers. These two devices, while similar, have different purposes.
Vacuum hair clippers are designed to shorten long hair while vacuum trimmers are meant to trim already short hair. In practice, this usually means that clippers aren’t great for close cuts while trimmers can’t handle a lot of hair.
The idea is that you shouldn’t get vacuum hair clippers if you want to shave off all your hair or even if you want a buzz cut. Similarly, while your trimmers will do well with a standard length beard, they won’t be a very useful addition to Santa Claus’s bathroom closet.
Despite this technical difference, manufacturers are quickly coming up to speed with the market and its specific demands, namely the need to be able to do both – cut close and trim long. This is why many modern vacuum hair clippers come with trimming attachments designed to handle close cuts.
How Should You Choose A Vacuum Hair Clipper?
Vacuum hair clippers of today are quite advanced and possess numerous cutting edge features. In fact, it can be quite overwhelming trying to sort through their multiple features. Here are a few factors you should be considering while choosing between multiple vacuum hair clippers.
Vacuum Feature
Two brands dominate the vacuum hair clipper category – Wahl and Remington – and they have different approaches to the feature.
Wahl hair clippers don’t have inbuilt vacuuming ability but using a vacuum conversion kit can turn most of their models into vacuum hair clippers. In most cases, this means connecting the clippers to your home vacuum cleaner. This gives you a lot of suction power as well as more waste collection capacity than you’ll ever need.
Remington, on the other hand, comes with inbuilt vacuum functionality. This means that the collection chamber and the suction motor are both
Blade Quality
Even though motors are important, it is really the blades that decide the cutting power and durability of the clippers.
You’ll find clippers with stainless steel blades and titanium coated stainless steel blades. Both are fine but titanium coating adds more staying power not only for the blades but also for their edges.
You’ll also have to consider if you’re okay with oiling the blades before every cutting session. The majority of models out there need their blades oiled, which is why most of them come with a bottle of oil. Oiling helps maintain the blades and their edges too. A few hair clippers won’t require oiling but this means that their cutting efficiency will fade away with time.
Attachments
It is also advisable to consider attachments, guards, and other accompaniments. You’ll need to evaluate your specific requirements and then check if the provided attachments are enough to cater to them.
For example, professional or barber class hair clippers won’t have as many guides and attachments because barbers are expected to have separate attachment kits. Similarly, clippers designed exclusively for home use may not have taper or adjustment lever because that is mainly a professional requirement.

Top 3 Budget Vacuum Hair Clippers: Detailed Reviews
1. Wahl Clipper Chrome Pro Hair Clipper #79524-2501
Editor’s Rating: 4.0/5.0
This is the most elaborate hair clipper kit on our list and one of the most elaborate on the market. It contains 24 pieces including the clipper and its blade guard, 13 attachment guards, combs, scissors, maintenance items, and even a cape.
The build quality of the attachments, however, could’ve been better. The cape seems to be made of the same kind of plastic that garbage bags are constructed of. Further, the scissors provided are blunt too.
The variety of attachments and accompaniments makes this device very versatile but the clipper’s efficiency depends more on the blades and the motor. These perform well, though.
The blades on the clipper are self-sharpening precision ground which means that they’re very accurate and don’t pull hair so much. It also means that they maintain their sharpness longer.
On the flipside, this means that the clipper can’t be used straight out of the box. You’ll have to align and oil the blades first. These clippers are, after all, meant for the seasoned user as opposed to a novice. If nothing else, the presence of an adjustable taper lever proves that fact.
This product is based around Wahl’s Powerdrive heavy-duty clipper motor. As a result, it doesn’t lack for power and can handle very coarse, thick, and curly hair with ease.
The device is ergonomic too with a comfortable grip. It doesn’t look bad either with a fancy chrome finish. It could’ve had a longer cord, though. The provided cord is only 7’ long. On top of this, the clipper is also on the heavier side.
The biggest flaw, however, is the fact that it doesn’t have inbuilt vacuuming functionality. In fact, you’ll have to buy a vacuum conversion kit to turn this hair clipper into a vacuum hair clipper. With the kit, these clippers are an excellent buy.
Who’s it for: If you want a lot of attachments and accompaniments and don’t mind paying extra for a vacuum converter, get this device.

2. Remington HKVAC2000A Vacuum Haircut Kit (Best Budget)
Editor’s Rating: 4.5/5.0
While Wahl products almost always require external vacuum conversion kits, Remington always offers inbuilt vacuum functionality. The Remington HKVAC2000A is one of its more lauded models.
It not only offers inbuilt vacuum functionality but also boasts of an extra-large collection chamber. Its overall suction efficiency is quite good as well. This is a dual motor device wherein one motor is dedicated to cutting while the other is devoted to sucking.
Cutting efficiency is helped by precision ground stainless steel blades but they still need regular oiling i.e. before every session to be truly effective. The blades are easy to clean too.
This is an 18 piece kit with 6 different guide combs. It doesn’t have an inbuilt adjustment taper lever but it does come with tapering attachments. Unfortunately, the tapering attachments are difficult to get used to and not as efficient.
In terms of usability, this device benefits from being one of the lightest in the market but what really makes it easy to use is its ergonomic grip. At the same time, this is a corded clipper which many of you may not like.
It looks quite good, though, with its hard plastic design. The collection chamber is translucent with a gorgeous ocean blue coloring. The device, on the whole, can be had in two color combinations i.e. black-blue and white-gray.
The HKVAC2000A offers great value for money with its very competitive pricing. In fact, it is one of the better budget options out there.
Who’s it for: If you want a user-friendly and pocket-friendly hair clipper with inbuilt vacuum functionality, go for this one from Remington.

3. Wahl Clipper Rechargeable Cord/Cordless Haircutting Kit #79434
Editor’s Rating: 3.75/5.0
This is the latest model from Wahl since it was released in 2018. As a result, it is a very modern device intended primarily for home use. In fact, it is designed to be as user-friendly as possible.
Consider the fact that this device can be both cordless and corded. The cord is used for charging it but you can use it corded if you’re don’t have time to wait. However, this device is special because of its cordless functionality.
It has amazingly long battery life and can run for 60 minutes non-stop on a full charge. This is good because an experienced individual can get three to four sessions within that period.
At the same time, it does take a long time to charge fully. Further, its charging indicator can be confusing. It starts out red but stays that way even when the device reaches full charge. Neither does it turn off nor does it change color.
Like all cordless devices, this one isn’t as powerful as the fully corded devices out there. This means that if you try to rush your cut, you’ll end up catching and pulling your hair out instead of clipping it. This is despite its stainless steel precision blades.
Also, like all battery-operated devices, this one is also on the heavier and bulkier side. This can really take away from its usability as you’ll find your arms tiring more quickly than expected. At the same time, this is a dual voltage device which means that it is perfect for globetrotters.
This device isn’t meant for advanced users either since it doesn’t have an adjustable taper lever. Moreover, it does come with 12 “goof-proof” guards. They may seem flimsy to you if you’re a seasoned user.
These clippers are quite easy to clean, which is a definite advantage. The entire clipping head just clicks out, allowing you to clean it with ease.

4. Wahl Clipper Elite Pro High Performance Haircut Kit #79602
Editor’s Rating: 4.0/5.0
Wahl presents this as their best set of hair clippers for advanced home users. According to the manufacturer, it has
In terms of the motor, it boasts of an industrial power motor that offers 15% more power than the next best option from Wahl – Powerdrive premium motor. The extra power ensures that no hair is caught and pulled by the blades. Unfortunately, all this power ensures a lot of noise as well!
Additionally, it has self-sharpening precision blades as well as an adjustable taper lever. Between the quality of the blades and taper lever, these hair clippers can handle most hair types. However, before you use the device, you will need to align and oil the blades.
With respect to the guide combs, this set has something that none other has – stainless steel clip guide combs. This adds life to the product since plastic attachment clips tend to get worn out over time.
The fact that this one has metal attachment clips means that it is a very long lasting device. The plastic that the guide combs are made of is also much stronger than the average combs provided with other models. Further, the guide combs have a large nameplate for easy identification.
These clippers have a heavy-duty, industrial cord which is quite long at 8 feet. They also come with a 9” premium plastic case for easy transport. They’re quite heavy, though.
All of this means that this is a professional level product. Therefore, even though these clippers can be used at home, they will require a certain level of skill from the user. You’ll also need to invest in a vacuum conversion kit separately to turn these clippers into vacuum hair clippers.
Who’s it for: If you’re a seasoned user and want to graduate onto professional instruments, this product is a good option and a decent price.

5. Wahl Clipper Self-Cut Haircutting Kit #79467 (Best Value)
Editor’s Rating: 4.25/5.0
Usually, barber quality means a lot of power along with a lot of noise. With the Self-Cutting Haircutting Kit #79467, Wahl has tried to circumvent that problem. They’ve built this product around an ultra-quiet motor that also offers professional level power.
Broadly speaking, they’ve succeeded but that doesn’t mean that this product is whisper quiet. It still generates quite a bit of sound, just not as much as your standard barber clippers.
The power it does possess, however, means that these clippers don’t snag and pull hair. It also helps that they have self-sharpening, precision ground blades, of course.
Between the 22 pieces in this kit and the adjustable taper lever, these are very versatile clippers that can handle a wide variety of requirements. The 22 pieces in the kit include 12 attachment guards along with taper guards for the ears. The quality of all the attachments and accompaniments could’ve been better, though. As soon as you handle them you may think them slightly flimsy.
While this product isn’t incredibly compact, it is still more manageable than most competing products. It is also a lightweight device and has an 8” heavy-duty cord, which helps usability.
As is the case with most Wahl hair clippers, you can give these the vacuum capability by getting a conversion kit either from Wahl or a third party manufacturer.
Who’s it for: If noise is a problem for you but you still want barber class hair clippers, then this is a very good product to go for.

6. Remington HKVAC-2000 Precision Vacuum Haircut Kit
Editor’s Rating: 3.75/5.0
While a lesser version of 2000A reviewed above, this device is still good enough for most users. It is a minimum maintenance product that comes with inbuilt vacuum functionality. It is also not too noisy which is why it turns out to be so kid-friendly.
In fact, it is not only kid-friendly but user-friendly in general. Even though it has a hard plastic body, it still manages to be quite lightweight. It also has a long cord which will make it easy for you to maneuver this product.
The translucent hair collection chamber is ocean blue while the rest of the opaque body is steel grey. The steel gray-ocean blue color combination comes across as very chic and attractive too.
Its suction power is decent, even though more recent products fare better in that regard. As it is, you may still have to clean up after your haircutting sessions and won’t be able to rely on it to suck up all the cut hairs.
You may even find the collection chamber too small for some of your more elaborate haircutting sessions. These hair clippers use TrimVac technology to suck in hair into the collection chamber.
The blades are made of steel but have titanium coating, which is a plus in terms of their life. The real clincher, though, is that it won’t require you to oil the blades which can be an annoying chore for many people.
The downside of that is that they get duller over time. The device also lacks sufficient power, since it is an older model. This can result in hairs being pulled especially if you try to rush through the cut.
This is a full-fledged 17-piece kit that comes with 6 guide combs, ear guards, and the usual maintenance and convenience accompaniments.
Who’s it for: If you want a compact set of hair clippers and are willing to compromise on power for it, go for this one.

Top 4 Premium Vacuum Hair Clippers: Detailed Reviews
7. Remington HC6550 Cordless Vacuum Haircut Kit (Top Pick)
Editor’s Rating: 4.5/5.0
The Remington HC6550 Cordless Vacuum Haircut Kit is incredibly popular and rightly so too. It is one of the best cordless vacuum hair clippers available in the market right now simply because it is such a well-rounded device.
Even though it was released as far back as 2015, it still manages to match and exceed the expectations of even the most experienced users. For example, it has one of the largest hair collection chambers in the industry.
This allows it to handle even hair-heavy cutting sessions. At the same time, it has a very strong motor too. This is somewhat of a rarity with cordless vacuum hair clippers.
Its powerful motor does two jobs. The first is that it ensures clean cuts without pulling hair and the second is that it manages to suck in up to 90 percent of the cut hair.
Its cutting efficiency is helped by its blades as well. It has titanium coated steel blades that deliver precise cuts without needing a lot of power. With a strong motor, you would expect this device to be quite noisy but it isn’t. It is a fairly quiet device that should neither scare your kids nor block off your doorbell.
Since it is a cordless device, its operation time is important. This device can run for 60 minutes nonstop without requiring a charge. It charges fast as well, taking only about 4 hours.
This product is both, travel-friendly and user-friendly. It is fairly lightweight, compact, and can be used all over the world because it supports both the American 110V and European 220V power systems.
It is a kit that contains 18 pieces, making it very adaptable. The pack contains everything from barber scissors and combs to 11 attachment guards. Add to this the fact that it has a highly ergonomic design and you have an amazingly user-friendly device.
It isn’t even difficult to clean. You can simply use the provided cleaning brush and rinse the blades in water before storing them away in the provided pouch. Further, its black and ocean blue color combination give it an attractive appearance.
There are two areas where this device falters, however. The first is the cost. This is an expensive device. Its high cost is also hard to stomach because it isn’t very durable. At best, it can be described as delicate.

8. Wahl Professional Senior Clipper #8500
Editor’s Rating: 4.0/5.0
Everyone cannot handle hair clippers meant for professional use. However, those who can tend to avoid the less advanced, underpowered hair clippers. If you’re such an individual then the Wahl Professional Senior Clipper #8500 is made just for you.
This is a barber class product that is intended for use by serious professionals. It is built around an immensely powerful electromagnetic V9000 motor that oozes oomph. There is no hair type or length that it can’t handle.
More importantly, you can manage its power output. There is a power screw on the device that can be tightened or loosened with the help of a Phillips screwdriver. Again, this is a professional functionality and is seen mainly in barber class tools.
Even if you use this device on maximum power, the motor doesn’t heat up and can deal with the heaviest use. Be careful, though. It can be quite loud at maximum power.
The motor is housed inside a metal casing that is very rugged and can handle rough use. In fact, you’ll have trouble finding hair clippers more durable than this one.
These hair clippers are intended for the busy barber, which means that they’re also ergonomically sound. They’re surprisingly light and compact. Their small size and low weight mean that it is easy to manage them over prolonged periods.
These are also very versatile provided you have all the attachments. The kit includes only the most basic attachments in the form of 3 attachment combs, a red blade guard, a cleaning brush, and a bottle of oil. The adjustable taper level further augments its versatility but a separate attachment kit will still do you good.
Being professional, these clippers will need you to not only align the blades regularly but also oil them before every session. In fact, this is their biggest flaw. Their professional design means that they aren’t as easy for home use as other more consumer-focused products.
Another significant flaw is that you’ll need to buy an external vacuum conversion kit to really turn them into vacuum hair clippers. This extra cost can be problematic since these clippers are very expensive

9. Remington VPG6530 Lithium Power Series 4 in 1 Vacuum Trimmer
Editor’s Rating: 4.25/5.0
Remington designed the VPG6530 for the on-the-go user. This is the perfect companion for professionals who live out of their suitcases and spend the majority of their lives traveling.
This is a 4-in-1 device. It serves the purpose of a hair clipper, a nose and ear hair trimmer, a foil shaver, and a detailer. While not a traditional clipper and more a trimmer, this device can be used to clip standard length hair. It comes with 4 comb attachments and its adjustable settings range from 2mm to 16mm.
Between the inbuilt adjustable settings and attachment combs, the device is quite capable of handling standard length hair. However, if you have longer, curlier, coarser, or thicker hair, then this device isn’t for you.
While its greatest asset is its ability to serve four different purposes, what makes it irresistible is that it is incredibly travel-friendly. In fact, you can treat this product as the gold standard of what a travel-friendly product should look like.
Firstly, it is a cordless device that can operate for 60 minutes without needing a charge. Further, it doesn’t even take that long to charge. It has a very user-friendly LED charge indicator as well.
Next, it is an amazingly light device. It may even be the lightest device in its product category. It is also sturdy enough to handle all the traveling that you’d be putting it through. However, you might want to be extra careful about how you pack its attachments. While the clipper is sturdy, the attachments seem flimsy.
Finally, it is a dual voltage device. This means that you can use it in Europe, Asia, and Africa as well as North America. All these qualities make this product immensely user-friendly, except for its handle. The handle could’ve used an ergonomic design as it is a bit too thick to grip over an extended period of time.
It also has a fairly powerful motor. The power helps it cut and suck hairs efficiently. The downside of this power is that it generates a lot of
Its cutting efficiency is helped by its self-sharpening stainless steel precision blades. The sucked in hairs moves into a detachable collection chamber. The chamber is easy to remove and even easier to clean.
Initially, this device will come off as very expensive to you but that is up until you consider that it is four devices in one. If you look at it that way, it seems almost affordable.
Who’s it for: If you travel a lot and are considering carrying multiple grooming devices, then leave all of them behind and buy this one.

10. Wahl Professional Vacuum Clipper #8566
Editor’s Rating: 4.0/5.0
A barber class tool is all about power but with that power, you’ll also get weight and noise. Therefore, if you want professional level hair clippers, you need to make peace with that fact.
If you’ve already done that, then the Wahl Professional Vacuum Clipper #8566 may be right down your alley. These clippers epitomize power. They are built on the manufacturer’s electromagnetic V9000 motor.
It is the most powerful hair clipper motor out there right now. This is why it can handle virtually any haircutting requirement. It can even deal with incredibly coarse, long, and thick hair with ease without overheating.
The self-sharpening steel blades help too, of course. As is the case with all professional clippers, though, you will have to align the blades right out of the box. Further, you’ll have to oil them regularly too.
The device also has built-in adjustable taper levers which are augmented by 6 provided attachment combs. These add to this device’s versatility. These clippers, though, are capable of a lot more than that. You can get the full functionality if you have your own set of barber attachments.
These clippers also happen to be the only professional grade Wahl hair clippers that come prepped for vacuum conversion. All you will need is a vacuum cleaner since these clippers come with the requisite hose and the dual vacuum adapter.
The hose isn’t perfect, though. It is flimsy and short. It even kinks up very easily and you’ll be spending a lot of time trying to straighten it out. You may also find the cord to be too short if you don’t have the right setup at home. Since power outlets aren’t really a problem in barber outlets, the provided cord is only 7 feet long.
However, you can charge the clippers and then remove the cord. In fact, if you want to connect it to a vacuum cleaner with the hose, you’ll have to do that anyways.
Its professional level design means that it isn’t very easy to use at home. The device is heavy and may tire you quickly if you’re using it on yourself. This weight is a result of its metal housing. Effectively, you’re getting durability at the price of weight. The handle, though, is quite ergonomic and easy to grip.
The biggest problem with this product, except for it needing a vacuum cleaner, is its cost. This is the most expensive device on this list. In fact, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more expensive hair clipper anywhere. Still, as any seasoned professional will tell you, these are well worth the cost.
