There have always been compelling reasons to avoid the local salon. The foremost is that by cutting your hair yourself you save tons of money over time. Of course, there’s also the relief and satisfaction of directly controlling how your hair ends up looking.
However, the most compelling reason for cutting your hair at home is the most recent – the Covid-19. With such a contagious virus floating freely in the country, a simple visit to the local barber or hairstylist can turn into the biggest mistake of your life. After all, they do touch your head and face in a thousand different ways during your haircut.
So, it is safer to cut your hair at home, even though it poses its own challenges. The most challenging aspect of cutting your hair at home isn’t that you’ll have to learn a completely new skill. Instead, it is the fact that you’ll have to deal with all the byproducts i.e. cut hair. Fortunately, you can avoid this problem by using hair clipper vacuum kits or devices.
In this guide, we’ll not only explain what these devices or kits are but also help you find one that will fit your needs and requirements. Here’s everything you’ll find on this page, laid out in a neat and easy-to-click navigation panel.

What Are Hair Clipper Vacuum Kits and Devices?
Let’s deal with the basics first. What are hair clipper vacuum kits and devices? In the simplest of terms, these are corded or cordless devices that will cut your hair without leaving hair cuttings all around you. These devices manage this by sucking the cuttings as soon as the hair is cut.
They do this through two mechanisms. The first mechanism is a built-in vacuuming system and the other is through external augmentation. Devices with built-in vacuums can have a single motor that handles both the cutting and sucking tasks or exclusive motors for each task.
The other type of hair clipper vacuum kits and devices usually depend on a connection with a vacuum cleaner. A hose goes from the back of the hair clipper into the vacuum and vacuum’s suction power is used to suck the hair in, while the clipper’s motor is used exclusively to cut hair.
How to Choose Hair Clipper Vacuum Kits and Devices?
Choosing a hair clipper vacuum kit or device is not all that different from choosing a hair clipper or trimmer. The only difference is that you have to analyze the vacuuming feature of the device in addition to other features.
Additionally, it would also be a good idea to pay special attention to the blades and attachments of the device since the vacuuming function can affect those aspects to a certain extent as well. Here’s a bit more detail.
Vacuum System & Efficiency
As described above, the majority of devices and kits you come across will either have a built-in vacuuming system or will rely on using a vacuum cleaner for suction power.
A few devices also capture cut hair by their unique design instead of using a proper built-in vacuuming function. We’ve included one in this list since the effect of the mechanical / design-based hair cuttings collection system is the same as a vacuum-based hair cuttings collection system.
When choosing your device, we recommend paying close attention to both the way it captures hair cuttings and how efficient it is at capturing cut hair.
Devices that rely on vacuum cleaners will capture cuttings more powerfully but will require time and effort to set up. These devices will also not be very travel-friendly since you can’t lug your vacuum cleaner on your travels.
Devices with built-in systems, on the other hand, will never promise 100 percent collection of hair cuttings. The best can only manage to collect around 90 percent of all the hair you cut. However, you’ll be able to take and use these devices anywhere.
In the hair clipper vacuum kit market segment, two players rule the roost – Wahl and Remington. However, they approach the vacuuming feature differently in their devices.
Wahl’s clippers are very powerful but their vacuum capacity isn’t built-in. They require you to buy vacuum converters to get that facility.
Remington, on the other hand, manufactures hair clippers with built-in vacuuming capabilities. Their clippers have built-in collection chambers which makes them bigger. Further, their motors are often responsible for vacuuming the hair in addition to moving the blades. This causes the clippers to not be as powerful as their more devoted Wahl counterparts.
Blades and Motor Quality
The cutting power of a hair clipper depends on two components – the motor and the blades. The power of the motor and the sharpness of the blades complement each other to make the clipper more efficient at cutting hair.
If the clipper doesn’t have enough power or its blades become blunt, you’ll not only have to spend more time cutting your hair but also suffer through constant hair pulling.
Fortunately, most brands advertise the type of motor inside their devices along with their outputs. This should help you figure out which of the devices in your shortlist are more powerful.
In addition to information about motors, manufacturers also describe the kind of blades their devices possess. These range from basic stainless-steel precision blades to blades with advanced self-sharpening technologies.
Types of Attachments
Depending on the type of hairstyle you prefer and how often you like to change your appearance, you’ll want to evaluate the variety and type of attachments included in the hair clipper vacuum kits and devices you’re considering.
Particularly, evaluate the lengths of hair you can get with the kit and whether there are provisions that help with trimming and detailing. It would also be a good idea to analyze other items and accessories included in the box.
For example, most manufacturers provide maintenance items in their kits. These could include everything from basic cleaning brushes and lubricating oils to elaborate cleaning and charging stations.

Top 3 Budget Hair Clipper Vacuum Kits and Devices: Detailed Reviews
1. Wahl Clipper Chrome Pro Hair Clipper #79524-2501
Editor’s Rating: 4.0/5.0
This is one of the older models available in the market right now. However, it is still competing in the current market mainly because it offers multiple functionalities at a low price point.
This is symbolized by the fact that the #79524-2501 is an entire hair clipping kit as opposed to being a simple clipper with a few tacked-on accessories. The kit consists of 24 pieces comprising an entire set of 13 attachment guards for a wide array of hairstyles. The 13 attachment guards are complemented by the built-in taper lever on the device for detail work.
Additionally, the kit contains a clipper blade cover, a couple of combs, a pair of scissors, and a barber cape. For maintenance, the kit comes with a cleaning brush and a bottle of lubrication oil. There’s even a storage case with a handle that you can use to travel with the complete kit if you can cope with the weight.
Many of the items in the kit, however, aren’t premium-grade. For instance, the scissors are blunt and the barber cape so flimsy as to seem like it is made up of garbage bags. In fact, the build quality of the entire kit reflects its price i.e. low. Even so, there aren’t many hair clipper vacuum kits that you can find at this price range, so the low build quality is acceptable to a certain extent.
If you can be gentle with the device to keep it from breaking down, you can get a lot of mileage out of it. It is good at its prime job as well i.e. cutting hair. This is because of two reasons – its self-sharpening precision blades and its powerful motor. The two features combine to create sufficient power for even the thickest of hair. Of course, the self-sharpening technology keeps the blades sharp for a long time as well.
Even so, you will still have to work hard to keep the hair clipper in proper working order. For instance, despite the self-sharpening technology, the blades will need to not only be aligned regularly but also oiled as frequently as possible. Failure to do this will result in blunting which will, in turn, take away the clipper’s effectiveness.
We should also mention that to get the vacuum function with this device, you’ll need an external vacuum convertor. As is the case with all Wahl hair clippers, this convertor isn’t a part of the kit and will have to be purchased separately. Incidentally, the convertor will fit perfectly around the seven-feet cord that this device comes with.
Who’s it for: If you want a full-fledged hair clipper vacuum kit with the complete range of attachments and accessories, get this one from Wahl.

2. Remington HKVAC2000A Vacuum Haircut Kit (Best Budget)
Editor’s Rating: 4.5/5.0
This is a much-appreciated and highly-acclaimed hair clipper vacuum kit. In fact, in the budget price segment, you won’t find a vacuum haircut kit as great as this one.
It is a Remington with one of the largest built-in hair cuttings collection chambers in the market right now. This means that you can go longer without being forced to stop your cutting session and emptying the filled-up chamber.
One of the more notable aspects of this device is that it has two motors. Generally, vacuum hair clippers tend to have a single motor for both tasks – cutting and sucking hairs. The fact that this one has two translates into better suction and cutting efficiency.
The cutting motor drives stainless-steel, precision-ground blades but the blades do require some maintenance. For instance, you’ll have to make sure that you clean the blades after every cutting session. Further, you’ll also have to oil them regularly. Fortunately, brushing and oiling the blades isn’t all that difficult.
Inside this kit, you’ll get eight attachment guards allowing for short to medium hairstyles. However, with a little more expertise and skill with the provided comb, you may be able to manage longer hairstyles too.
We should add that the tapering guard included in this kit isn’t the most useful. It has an annoying tendency of leaving behind unwanted lines. Overall, this is an 18-piece kit that also contains scissors, cleaning brush, lubricating oil, hair clips, and travel bag.
Using the travel bag and traveling with this kit is easy because it doesn’t weigh a lot. Using it is equally easy as it is ergonomically designed and affords a good grip. However, this isn’t a cordless device. You’ll always have to use it plugged in.
Appearance-wise, the device rates fairly well. It has a hard plastic design with a black body and a transparent collection chamber. The collection chamber is ocean blue in color.
Who’s it for: If you want a hair clipper vacuum kit with built-in vacuum function and dual motors on a budget, get this one from Remington.

3. Conair Professional HC900 Rotary Hair Cutting System
Editor’s Rating: 4.0/5.0
The HC900 Rotary Hair Cutting System has a different design to what you would expect in a hair clipper. In fact, its design is fairly unique. For instance, this device is round instead of long. It is like a bottle cap with blades all around the circumference. As is natural, the blades arranged in a circular confirmation provide a rotary action on the hair.
The pocket at the center of the device acts as the chamber where the hair cuttings are collected. While there is no vacuum function in this device, it behaves in the same way, albeit a little less efficiently. The clippings are easy to clean away too. You can just use the provided cleaning brush to move them out of the compartment.
The unique design of this hair clipper vacuum device makes it different in various ways. The most important is how it needs to be used. It needs to be moved back and forth or up and down first. This needs to be followed by a clockwise circular motion and then an anti-clockwise circular motion.
Initially, you’ll need more passes but as you get accustomed to the device, the need for extra passes will disappear. This means that using this device is slightly more time consuming than other hair clippers.
The biggest complaint users have from this device also has to do with the cutting method. Because of how elaborate it is, this device often ends up delivering uneven cuts. This especially happens if the user doesn’t pay attention to the angle between the device and the scalp. Another minor flaw of this device is how difficult it is to maneuver it around the ears.
As per Conair, this device is designed to “cut hair a 1/2-inch or less in any direction”. All in all, there are five cutting lengths to choose from. These can be chosen through two different comb guides, which are both individually adjustable.
There is also a mechanism that can be used to lock in the chosen hair length that prevents unfortunate cutting mistakes. Incidentally, the blades on this hair clipper are made up of stainlesssteel, ensuring durability.
As is the case with all hair clippers, this one’s blades also need to be oiled. However, the oiling process is simple. You just put a couple of drops on the blades and turn the device on.
It would’ve been nice if they had provided lubricating oil. As it is, we suggest using any light oil you have at home. Apart from the two adjustable comb guides, this clipper also comes with a cleaning brush, a barber cape, a pair of scissors, a styling comb, and a storage pouch.
The storage pouch is a part of this device’s greatest quality. This is the fact that it is one of the most travel-friendly hair clipper kits in the market. It is incredibly light and compact, making it suitable even for handbags. Further, it is a dual voltage device which means that you can take it to any corner of the globe.
The device can be used corded or on batteries. Fully charged, the batteries are efficient enough to deliver 120 minutes of continuous use. They are quick to reach full charge too, except for when the device is brand new. Straight out of the box, it needs 16 hours of charging before it can be used.
You can get this device in two colors too. They are black and red.
Who’s it for: If you want the most travel-friendly hair clipper with a design-based cuttings collection mechanism, get this one from Conair.

Top 3 Value Hair Clipper Vacuum Kits and Devices: Detailed Reviews
4. Wahl Clipper Self-Cut Haircutting Kit #79467
Editor’s Rating: 4.25/5.0
One of the biggest drawbacks of all hair clippers is that they make a lot of noise. This is especially true of vacuum hair clippers because the suction feature causes as much noise as the blades. While hair clippers will always be noisy, some models behave like angry bees instead of aggressive chainsaws.
The #79467 from Wahl qualifies as an angry bee mainly because of its ultra-quiet motor. The motor makes this hair clipper quieter than most of its competitors without compromising on cutting power. Combined with precision, self-sharpening blades, the motor delivers excellent haircuts without pulling or snagging the hair.
In fact, this hair clipper is very similar to the industrial-grade devices used by professional hairstylists and barbers. For instance, this hair clipper has a built-in adjustable taper lever that can be used to refine the cuts. Further, it is a part of a 22-piece kit, which includes 12 Secure Snap smooth cutting attachment guards. Other accessories included in the kit are a cleaning brush, lubricating oil, scissors, and a couple of combs.
There’s also a hard case for storing everything. Whether you use the case or not, the device is fairly easy to travel with mainly because it isn’t too heavy and is very compact. However, you will have to limit your travels to within the USA because this clipper doesn’t have the dual voltage advantage.
To give it the vacuum functionality, you will have to buy a converter kit separately. It is available in the market at a decent price too. The converter kit will work around this device’s eight-feet-long heavy-duty cord.
The biggest flaw of this device is its build quality. While it does offer the same versatility, flexibility, and functionality that professional-grade hair clippers do, it doesn’t offer the same sturdiness. It is on the flimsy side, which makes it prone to breaking down. It is nothing that a gentle touch can’t protect you from, but it can be problematic in the initial stages.
Who’s it for: If you’re not a big fan of all the noise that hair clippers make, get this one from Wahl.

5. Remington VPG6530 Lithium Power Series 4 In 1 Vacuum Trimmer
Editor’s Rating: 4.25/5.0
There aren’t that many devices in the market that can handle all types of hair on your body and boast of the vacuum feature. The Remington VPG6530, however, is one of those devices. This is, in effect, a four in one device. It is a foil shaver, a beard trimmer, a nose and hair trimmer, and a detailer.
This makes it an incredibly versatile and useful device. All these functions of this device are achieved through smartly designed attachments. Apart from the main function attachments, this device also comes with four different comb guards allowing hair lengths between 9mm and 1.5mm.
Of course, the device has built-in adjustable settings too. The attachments, unfortunately, aren’t the sturdiest in the market. We recommend being very careful about how you handle them. The clipper, on the other hand, is very sturdy and durable.
Behind all these attachments, you’ll find precision stainless-steel blades with self-sharpening technology. While the blades are great, the same cannot be said for the motor of this device because it fails to deliver enough power.
In practice, this means that if you have extra coarse, curly, or thick hair, you’ll need multiple passes to get the desired results. This is surprising because the device does make a lot of noise. Using the device over an extended period can beparticularly difficult since the grip of this device isn’t very user-friendly.
On the suction side, though, the motor doesn’t fail. It has a decent suction capacity and the sucked-in hair collects in a transparent chamber. The collection chamber can be detached and cleaned very easily.
Its versatility, though, isn’t its only quality. It also happens to be incredibly travel-friendly. The device is super-light and not too bulky. It also supports all kinds of voltage systems, making it suitable for use in any country in the world.
Further, it can be used cordlessly and possesses a battery that allows 60-minutes’ worth of non-stop run time. The battery doesn’t even take a long time to achieve full capacity. You can test this out by keeping an eye on the LED charging indicator.
Who’s it for: If you want the most travel-friendly device with built-in vacuum function at a low price point, get this one from Remington.

6. Remington HC6550 Cordless Vacuum Haircut Kit (Best Value)
Editor’s Rating: 4.5/5.0
When it comes to built-in vacuuming capacity, this device is easily the best in the market right now. In fact, it has held that position for a very long time. You see, the Remington HC6550 vacuum haircut kit is an upgrade on the VPG6530, which is already a great device.
The HC6550 is a cordless vacuum hair clipper with the biggest hair cuttings collection chamber of all its competitors. This reduces the number of times you have to stop cutting your hair to empty the container.
The extra-large container makes the device a little cumbersome to handle. At the same time, its low weight and very comfortable grip negate problems caused by the bulkiness of this device. In fact, it is generally very travel-friendly, particularly since it comes with a storage pouch and is a dual voltage device.
Incidentally, the hair cuttings collection chamber of this device is transparent making it easy to see when it needs to be cleaned. To clean it, you simply brush the collection chamber with the provided brush and rinse the blades under running water. Also, the collection chamber adds to the aesthetic charm of this device. It is ocean blue in color while the rest of the device’s body is black.
Apart from the cleaning brush, this device also comes with several other accessories including barber scissors, styling combs, and ear tapers. In terms of cutting attachments, you’ll find eleven guards in this kit for hair lengths ranging from 1.5mm to 25mm.
Unfortunately, the guards are fragile and flimsy so you need to be careful when you handle them. In fact, the entire device is fragile and does not fare well with rough use.
Even so, the device and the guards are quite effective at cutting the hair. They’re helped in this regard by this device’s upgraded blades. The precision blades are not only stainless-steel but also titanium-coated, making them very sharp and long-lasting. The blades are backed by a fairly powerful motor. The surprising aspect of this motor is that it delivers all that power without making a lot of noise.
The quality of this device’s blades and motor means that it doesn’t pull hair even when low on battery. The battery, on a full charge, can run for 60 minutes non-stop and takes only about four hours to achieve full capacity.
Who’s it for: If you want a state-of-the-art hair clipper kit with maximum capabilities and built-in vacuuming feature, you cannot buy anything other than the Remington 6550.

Top 3 Premium Hair Clipper Vacuum Kits and Devices: Detailed Reviews
7. Wahl Professional Senior Clipper #8500
Editor’s Rating: 4.0/5.0
Professional-grade hair clippers will always offer more cutting power and precision when compared to consumer-grade hair clippers. However, the downside is that professional-grade hair clippers don’t offer the same type of convenience.
Consider the #8500 from Wahl. It is a device that has explicitly been developed for professional hairstylists and barbers. This means that it will demand a certain level of skill from you.
As a result, if you’re a complete newbie with hair clippers, you’ll find it very difficult to use this device. For example, straight out of the box, the device will require you to align the blades. If you fail to do this or do it wrong, you’ll end up with cuts and nicks.
If you have the requisite skills, though, this hair clipper can handle multiple haircutting sessions without any drop in accuracy or precision. This is mainly because it is based around a very powerful electromagnetic V9000 motor.
The motor not only offers a lot of power but also the ability to manage that power by loosening or tightening the power screw on the device. Be advised, however, that if you use the device on maximum power, it will be very noisy.
It is also important to note that this hair clipper can be used for longer periods without any risk of overheating, despite having a metal housing. Also, to be suitable for use over prolonged periods, a hair clipper needs to be light and compact so that the user doesn’t tire over time. This is true in the case of this device as well since it is not only very lightweight but also very compact.
The fact that this device is lightweight and doesn’t heat up is surprising because it has a metal body. The metal body makes this device extremely long-lasting and durable. Another user-friendly feature of this device is its industrial-strength, eight-foot-long cord. It isn’t very travel-friendly for people who travel abroad, though. It only supports the American power system.
While this clipper comes with a few attachments, they may not be enough for more elaborate hairstyles. The kit includes only three attachment combs and if you want more, you’ll have to buy them separately. However, the box does contain accessories for maintenance purposes. These are a red blade guard, a cleaning brush, and lubricating oil.
This clipper, unfortunately, doesn’t come with the vacuuming attachment. If you want it to avoid the mess that hair cuttings make, you’ll have to buy this attachment separately and hook it up to a vacuum cleaner. Once the setup is established, however, this device does a tremendous job of sucking up all the hair cuttings.
The vacuum conversion kit will require you to spend above and beyond the cost of this kit. This is a problem because the kit, itself, is very expensively priced. Its durability does offset the considerable initial investment, however.
Who’s it for: If you are skilled and have a lot of experience with hair clippers, go for this professional-grade hair clipper from Wahl.

8. Wahl Professional Vacuum Clipper #8566
Editor’s Rating: 4.25/5.0
The Wahl #8566 is the most advanced professional-grade hair clipper with vacuuming capability. Like all Wahl hair clippers, its vacuuming function can only be achieved by connecting it to an external vacuum cleaner.
Unlike most Wahl Clippers, though, this model comes with the equipment needed to connect it to a vacuum cleaner, namely a vacuum hose and a dual vacuum adapter. The provided vacuum hose, however, is quite flimsy and only about seven feet long. It has an annoying habit to bend and kink too. This can cause suction to stop in the middle of the cut.
Since the vacuum cleaner will supply all the power needed to suck in the hair cuttings, the clipper’s motor is left alone to focus on the cutting aspect of the task. It does the job incredibly well on account of its inherent power. This device boasts of a V9000 electromagnetic motor.
Wahl says that this is its strongest motor. What they don’t mention is that this motor is one of the strongest in the entire industry. The best part is that this powerful motor doesn’t cause the entire device to become too hot to handle. The motor is ably assisted by the stainless-steel, self-sharpening #1005 Wahl blades.
The hair clipper comes as a part of a larger haircutting kit which includes six cutting guides. The guides should be able to meet the requirements of most users, especially since the hair clipper has a built-in taper lever. However, if you’re looking for more elaborate hairstyles, you may want to buy others.
The kit also contains a series of maintenance supplies such as a cleaning brush, a blade guard, and lubricating oil. These are important too because cleaning and oiling the blades is critical to this device’s longevity. In fact, you’ll have to align the blades straight out of the box.
This hair clipper vacuum kit isn’t the easiest to use. First, it will challenge inexperienced users simply because it is incredibly sharp and powerful. Then, it will be a trial to handle over prolonged periods because new users will find it too heavy. The weight, of course, is the price you pay for this device’s incredible longevity brought about by its metal body.
Maneuvering the clipper around the head can also be problematic if the power outlet is too far because the cord only measures 7.5 feet. In contrast, the device does have an ergonomic design, which makes it easy to grip. Even so, it isn’t the easiest clipper to use on oneself.
Being the most advanced and long-lasting offering from Wahl, we’re not at all surprised at its cost. Some of you may find it a bit exorbitant, but let us assure you it is very much worth it if you have a big family.
Who’s it for: If you want the best professional-grade Wahl hair clipper vacuum kit, go for the #8566.

9. Flowbee Haircutting System (Top Pick)
Editor’s Rating: 4.25/5.0
Most people disregard a product, the moment there is an infomercial about it on the TV. While mostly valid, this attitude should be given a rest when it comes to the Flowbee Haircutting System. After all, if a product stays relevant over multiple decades, there has to be something great about it, right?
Flowbee achieves what it claims to offer very successfully. It is a very easy to use and accomplished hair clipper vacuum kit that can be attached to any standard vacuum cleaner. Unlike Wahl’s hair clippers, this one relies on the vacuum cleaner to cut the hair. The suction from the attached vacuum cleaner pulls hair into the guards where they’re cut by moving blades.
Because the moving blades are recessed behind these guards, this cutting system doesn’t pose any risk to kids. The unique design of the device affects the way you move this device on the head, as well. Instead of the normal glide action that you may be used to, you’ll have to use a bouncing action on the head to cut your hair with the Flowbee.
Because of the newness of the technique, you could take some time to learn how to use this device. Managing the connecting hose while performing that bouncing action will further complicate matters and add to your difficulties.
The Flowbee kit is quite comprehensive and contains ten different attachment combs. Flowbee calls these attachments spacers and they can cover virtually every styling requirementand hair length starting from as short as 12mm to 152mm.
It also contains all the equipment you’ll need to connect it to a vacuum cleaner along with a lubricant. It is missing a trimmer attachment, though. So, you’ll have to arrange for this separately or use a basic razor to complete the task.
We should also specify that all the spacers and attachment equipment are very fragile. You’ll have to be very careful when handling them to avoid breaking them. If you do end up breaking them, however, you’ll have the option of buying a replacement set.
The only problem is that the replacement set is very expensive. Since the original Flowbee set is exorbitantly priced, buying a replacement set can be a huge financial setback.
Who’s it for: If you have a big family and don’t like how hair clippers work and feel in your hand, go for the Flowbee Haircutting System.
