Our Top Picks: Detailed Reviews
Purple Shampoo for Blonde Hair by GBG (Top Pick)
GBG may not be the most expensive hair care brand available, but their purple shampoo delivers results that shouldn’t be sneezed at.
Unlike some other targeted shampoos, meant to serve a specific purpose in your hair and assuming that you have other hair-care routines that take care of the rest, this purple shampoo thinks about your hair from scalp to tip. The 100% organic ingredient list makes it easy to feel good about what you’re putting on your hair. It also reduces the number of contaminants that might get into your shampoo, and on your scalp.
We’ll go into more detail about this shampoo in our main list, but if you’re looking for the best and, in a hurry, Purple Shampoo for Blonde Hair by GBG is a good bet, whether your hair is blonde, silver, or gray.
Redken Graydient Anti-Yellow Shampoo (Best Value)
When we look for the best value pick, we’re looking for a product that delivers great results at a reasonable price. For a shampoo that means that it must take care of your hair, and you have to get a good volume of shampoo for the price.
Redken isn’t the cheapest brand of shampoo out there, it isn’t even the cheapest on our list. But, you get a salon-quality product and an impressive 33.8 Fl Oz in every bottle. For comparison to a more common drugstore brand, that’s about the size of a bottle of Tresemmé.
While Redken does offer a men’s specialty brand, Redken Brews, the differences between the Brews silver shampoo and this one weren’t particularly significant. Either are good options, but since the standard Redken line is easier to find in stores, that’s what we went with.
Like our other top picks, we discuss this shampoo more in-depth later, but if you need a highly effective option and to get the most out of your dollar, this is a good choice.
L’Oreal Paris Everpure Blonde Shampoo (Best Budget)
L’Oreal is a reasonably high-quality brand at a great price point. This shampoo is affordable for almostanyone and offers good results.
This shampoo also has an impressive list of benefits for sensitive skin and eco-activism. Of all the products on our list, this may be one of the best choices if you are concerned about sensitive skin or allergic reactions.
In addition to gently adjusting the color of your hair, this formulation is also gentle enough to preserve your hair color. While fading is less of a problem with plain bleach, that makes this a good option for blondes who’ve added color highlights, and anyone whose added color to achieve the perfect gray or silver look.
If you need to stick to a budget, but don’t want to sacrifice the health or color of your hair, this is a good option.
Continue reading to learn more about all three of these shampoos, and the other products that make our top 8 list. We’ve also included a short tips and tricks guide at the end to help you get the most out of your new silver shampoo.

Best Silver Shampoos: Detailed Reviews
1. Purple Shampoo for Blonde Hair by GBG (Top Pick)
Editor’s Rating: 4.9/5.0
GBG, or Get back Gorgeous, is a trusted name in high-end shampoo. While they aren’t a shampoo designer company, headed by a single visionary, like some of the other shampoos on our list, they do offer similarly high-quality ingredients and incredible quality.
GBG’s Purple Shampoo is made from entirely organic ingredients. They also include a UV stabilizer to help protect and heal your hair after lightening. The added UV protection is also important for natural blondes.
You can also use this purple shampoo to brighten and mildly alter the color of your naturally graying hair. Graying hair also needs additional UV protection, although UV is not commonly considered necessary hair protection.
The addition of keratin in this shampoo helps immediately strengthen each hair strand. Keratin helps avoid additional breakage and split ends. Since breakage is more common after bleaching your hair, adding keratin will let you keep more of your hair while also maintaining your color.
Plus, the purple pigment, the most important part of any silver shampoo, is vibrant and deposits well. Your hair won’t turn purple, which can happen with pigments that are too intense or poorly formulated, but it will steadily eliminate yellowing.

2. Redken Graydient Anti-Yellow Shampoo (Best Value)
Editor’s Rating: 4.7/5.0
Redken is another big name in affordable but high-quality shampoo. While not generally considered a drugstore brand, you can find Redken in many salons and stylist shops, you can also find bottles of this shampoo in your local Walmart.
When it comes to silver shampoo, Graydient has a significant advantage over many of the products on the market right now. Silver and purple shampoos were, for years, marketed exclusively toward blondes. Graydient, on the other hand, is designed with gray and silver hair in mind.
It’s worth noting that most users see and feel an immediate improvement in the texture of their hair after using Graydient.
Since bleaching and processing your hair to stylish shades of gray and silver is usually a time-consuming and moderately damaging process, texture is more important for silver heads than other chemically colored hair.
Graydient restores some of the natural moisture needed for smooth, beautiful hair.
Plus, unlike many other options, Graydient comes in both a shampoo and a conditioner. The two work synergistically together, so we recommend getting both if you want to reap the benefits of this shampoo.
While it’s marketed toward silver and gray hairstyles, this shampoo can also boost a more natural-looking blonde color. You’ll just want to wash a little faster to prevent your blond from edging toward a silver-white.

3. L’Oreal Paris Everpure Blonde Shampoo (Best Budget)
Editor’s Rating: 4.4/5.0
L’Oreal Paris is one of the most affordable shampoo brands out there. Yet, their shampoo tends to perform much better than the price tag would indicate.
Everpure is an especially impressive entry into the L’Oreal line, as it is vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, and gluten-free.
If you have sensitive skin, this is probably a good option. Both parabens and sulfates, commonly added to aid in preserving the shampoo and building lather, can irritate your skin. Worse, if you do develop a skin sensitivity, it’s likely to increase over time.
Everpure is also a good option if you are vegan or concerned about animal testing in beauty products. While many of the products on our list are vegan and cruelty-free, this is the most affordable product that comes with that label.
When it comes down to the true test of a silver shampoo, Everpure Blonde Shampoo performs well. Since it’s formulated for blonde hair, rather than silver or gray, the purple pigmentation is a little lighter than some of its competitors. But, with a little patience, it works just as well.
That milder pigmentation also makes this a particularly good choice if you are a natural blonde, or a color-correcting naturally gray hair.

4. Oribe Bright Blonde Shampoo
Editor’s Rating: 4.6/5.0
This high-end shampoo helps correct the color of your hair quickly and easily. Oribe’s shampoo may not be formulated specifically for gray and silver hair, having been on the market longer than those colors have been fashionable, but it’s well up to the task of maintaining those tricky colors.
Like L’Oreal’s Everpure, this shampoo is made from gluten-free, organic, vegan ingredients. It’s also paraben and sulfate-free. But, unlike L’Oreal, those benefits are reflected in the price tag.
However, like most high-end shampoo, Oribe’s blonde shampoo works to address all the most common problems in light hair, whether it’s natural or color-treated. That means adding extra strength, minimizing greasiness while boosting volume, and treating split ends and other damage.
Like other high-end shampoos, this brand is mostly available online or through specialty beauty stores.

The Pros |
---|

The Cons |

5. Philip B. Icelandic Blonde Shampoo
Editor’s Rating: 4.5/5.0
Philip B,’s Icelandic Blonde is another shampoo specifically designed for silver and gray hair. It also has added plum and grapefruit extracts, which work to repair the damage, balance your scalp’s PH, and condition and smooth the cuticle through each shaft of your hair.
This formula is also designed to last in your hair, releasing botanicals and other beneficial ingredients slowly, so that it works in the long term and not just while you’re washing.
However, those benefits come with a high price tag. This is one of the most expensive shampoos on this list, and only comes in a relatively small bottle, and a massive bottle, with no middle option.
Tech Specs |
---|
Product Volume: 7.4 Fl Oz |
Notable Feature: Plum Extract |
The Pros |
---|
Fast-acting highly effective formula |
Slow-release botanicals |
Designed for silver and gray hair |
Has a whole line of silver hair care products from the same manufacturer |
The Cons |
---|
Expensive |
The smaller bottle is very small, the larger bulk bottle is very expensive |
6. Sachajuan Silver Shampoo
Editor’s Rating: /5.0
Sachajuan was one of the contenders for our Best Value designation. It didn’t quite make it because the Redken offers similar results and more shampoo in each bottle, but the Sachajuan is still a good compromise between price and quality.
The use of Ocean Silk is a major stand out with this shampoo. It helps improve the texture and strength of your hair, while also making it significantly easier to brush, style, and shape.
This silver-specific shampoo also offers some UV protection. And Sachajuan also formulates a silver conditioner, so you can benefit from both products having a synergistic design for your hair if you choose to also purchase their conditioner line.
Sachajuan’s silver shampoo is also good for fine hair and hair with minimal natural curls since it adds a good deal of volume and control.

7. Loreal Serie Expert Magnesium Silver Shampoo
Editor’s Rating: 4.2/5.0
Loreal Serie is another budget option, but you can still expect good results with this shampoo. Depending on your hair type, some customers report that this shampoo formulation works better for them than higher-end competitors.
The magnesium in this blend adds a little extra luster to your hair, while the short ingredient list makes it easy to avoid allergens and possible irritants.
However, it does still have sulfates and salts that can be irritating if you have a sensitivity to normal shampoos.
Tech Specs |
---|
Product Volume: 16.9 Fl Oz |
Notable Feature: Magnesium |
The Pros |
---|
Readily available |
Short ingredient list |
Violet pigments are effective |
Good price |
The Cons |
---|
No conditioner in the same shampoo line |
Contains sulfates |
8. Philip Kingsley Pure Silver Shampoo
Editor’s Rating: 4.2/5.0
Philip Kingsley’s Pure Silver Shampoo is another more expensive high-quality entry, but it differentiates itself with its ingredient list and different benefits.
This silver shampoo includes lavender extract, adding a pleasant stress-relieving scent.
The lavender also helps condition your highlights and adds greater shine to the lightest colors in your hair. That added shine boosts both blonde and silver and gray colors. These shades’ biggest weakness is looking dull or lifeless, even when the color itself is good.
Adding brighter shine to the highlights creates greater depth in your hair, for good results.
Philip Kingsley’s formula also adds a great deal of volume and movement to your hair, for photo-worthy results.
Unlike some of the other name-brand shampoos on our list, the standard size of this shampoo bottle is large, 33.8 Fl Oz, which is more than enough to last through an entire month of regular use.
Tech Specs |
---|
Product Volume: 33.8 Fl Oz |

Calming Lavender scent |
Brightens highlights |

The Cons |

Tips and Tricks
Like most things when it comes to hair care and styling, the difference between reasonable and fantastic results is knowing the tips and tricks to get the most of your product.
Hair Already Yellowed?
It’s a common problem. Your blonde ‘dye’ was supposed to be relatively mild. You’d never had problems bleaching your hair before. You accidentally left the bleach in your hair too long.
Whatever the reason, you now have over-processed brassy-looking hair.
The solution isn’t to give up on your bleach and color your hair a shade or two darker to mask the problem. Instead, simply get a silver shampoo and conditioner set.
Leave both products in your hair a little longer than normal, letting the purple pigment sink into your hair, but otherwise shower as normal. Usually, this method will correct yellowed hair and brassiness within a few washes.
Bleach Leave Your Hair Frizzy and Hard to Control?
Try reversing your usual routine. This will work best if you use both a silver shampoo and a silver conditioner, but it isn’t necessary to switch if you don’t have a silver conditioner.
Instead of washing your hair with shampoo and following up with conditioner, condition your hair first. Leave the conditioner in for at least 3 minutes, and up to 10. Then lightly wet your hair, without completely rinsing the conditioner out, and wash it with your shampoo.
You’ll probably need less shampoo when you reverse wash.
You can only reverse wash about half the time you shower, but when you do, you’ll notice that your hair is softer, easier to control, and less frizzy.
This is a good way to start reversing some of the damage done by bleaching.
Strand Test a Hair Mask with A Silver Conditioner
If your hair isn’t quite the shade you’re looking for, especially if your goal is a brilliant white or bright silver shade, you might want to consider a conditioner mask to help color correct and heal your hair.
Bleach opens the cuticle of your hair, removing color, but often leaving the cuticle at least partially open. That’s why bleached hair often looks duller than natural hair, especially right after processing.
Conditioners help smooth the cuticle and restore needed oils and nutrients. Silver conditioners deposit some purple pigment to even out yellows and brighten your overall color.
Don’t jump straight to using a silver conditioner mask on all your hair though. Do a strand test with about an inch of your hair. Start with a ten-minute mask, then rinse. Repeat until you have the color you’re looking for, but don’t try the mask more than twice in a day.
Once you have the color you’re looking for, you know how long it will take. Use the conditioner mask for your whole head, planning on roughly the time you needed for the strand test.
Conclusion
While silver shampoo is only one of many care routines bleached hair needs to stay healthy and look good, it’s an important and easy step to follow.
We worked to make sure that our list not only represented the best products available, but also a reasonable price ranges from the highest end shampoos to highly affordable drugstore brands.
Because of that, we’re confident that there is a good shampoo on this list for everyone with blonde or silver hair. Even naturally graying hair can benefit from a switch to a silver shampoo.
Of course, if you haven’t seen what you like on this list, we’ve also tried to highlight the most important features, both pros, and cons, so you can make a better-educated decision. Our goal is to make sure that you’re happy in your choice, and that your hair shows the benefits of a great silver shampoo.
